Scottish Woman Sets World Record by Shearing 517 Sheep in Nine Hours

Una Cameron, 51, from St Boswells, has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for women’s sheep shearing, successfully shearing 517 sheep in just nine hours during a live-streamed marathon session.

A seasoned shearer since her youth, Una described the achievement as the culmination of a lifetime of dedication and hard work in the field.

“I’ve been building toward this all my working life,” she said, reflecting on the grueling but rewarding challenge.

The record attempt was judged not just on speed, but also on the quality of the fleece and the welfare of each animal, both of which were rigorously monitored throughout the event.

Her support team noted the intense physical demands of the feat, with significant weight loss expected due to the sheer exertion of wrestling and positioning the sheep repeatedly over the nine-hour period.

Una’s accomplishment has been widely celebrated in the agricultural community and has cemented her legacy as one of the most formidable figures in the world of competitive shearing.
