Dr. Veerbhadrappa, an accomplished eye surgeon with the Indian Army Medical Corps and a passionate seasonal motorcyclist from Bidar, Karnataka, has made history by becoming the first Indian solo motorcycle rider to reach the highest motorable pass in the world — the Umling La in Ladakh.
Setting off from Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Veerbhadrappa embarked on this daring adventure through the Manali-Leh road, passing through Hanle and then navigating the rugged route via Photi La pass to reach Umling La at a breathtaking altitude of 19,024 feet.
On September 3, 2021, he pushed the boundaries of endurance and patriotism by continuing his ride beyond Umling La, reaching Demchok, the last Indian Army post on the Indo-China border.
“This journey was about pushing personal limits while honoring our soldiers who guard our borders in such extreme conditions,” said Dr. Veerbhadrappa after completing the historic ride. “Reaching Umling La solo on a motorcycle was challenging, but the sense of accomplishment and pride was unmatched.”
Dr. Veerbhadrappa’s achievement stands as a testament to the adventurous spirit and resilience of India’s armed forces personnel, inspiring countless others to pursue their passions with unwavering dedication.
