Largest Single-Day Tobacco Control Campaign in Rajasthan Enforces 176,693 Violations

To curb tobacco use and promote public health, the Directorate of Medical & Health Services, Jaipur, Rajasthan, organized a massive tobacco control campaign on February 28, 2017. Under the leadership of Shri Kalicharan Saraf, Medical, Health and Family Welfare Minister of Rajasthan, the campaign sensitized 1,76,693 tobacco users and vendors across 295 blocks in 33 districts of the state.

During this single-day mobilization, an equal number of violations of the Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 were detected and penalized in strict accordance with the law. This unprecedented enforcement drive set a new record in the state for the largest tobacco control action in a single day, demonstrating Rajasthan’s strong commitment to public health and tobacco-free communities.
