S. Ramaswamy: A Record 30 Successive National Table Tennis Championships (1976–2006)

Veteran paddler S. Ramaswamy achieved a historic milestone in Indian table tennis by becoming the first player to compete in 30 successive National Championships, setting a new benchmark for longevity and consistency in the sport.

Ramaswamy began his incredible journey in 1976, when he played his first Nationals in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh. By February 2006, he surpassed the previous joint record of 29 consecutive appearances, which he had shared with fellow stalwart S. Sriram.

Over the course of three decades, Ramaswamy’s presence at the Nationals became a symbol of endurance, passion, and dedication. His contribution to Indian table tennis goes beyond medals—he has inspired generations of players through his unwavering commitment and sportsmanship.

As the crowd cheered during his 30th appearance, it wasn’t just a personal record that was celebrated—it was a tribute to a lifetime devoted to the sport.
