Karumbi, a four-year-old Canadian Pygmy goat from Peerumedu in Kerala’s Idukki district, has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s shortest living goat, standing at just 40.5 centimeters (1 foot 3 inches) tall.
Owned by Linu Peter, a mechanical instructor at a private engineering college, Karumbi became a local celebrity due to her diminutive stature. Despite the Canadian Pygmy breed’s naturally small size, Karumbi’s height remained notably short, prompting recognition of her uniqueness.
The process of securing the Guinness World Record involved meticulous documentation by Kerala’s Animal Husbandry Department, which verified Karumbi’s measurements, age, and breed. Following a thorough evaluation, Guinness World Records officially declared Karumbi the shortest goat living.
Karumbi is a cherished member of the Peter family, residing alongside other goats, cows, rabbits, hens, and ducks on their farm. She has a four-month-old kid and is currently pregnant with her second. Her sociable nature and record-breaking stature have made her a beloved figure in the community.
This recognition not only highlights Karumbi’s unique characteristics but also brings attention to the Canadian Pygmy breed and the diverse livestock reared in Kerala.
