Truphena Muthoni, a 21-year-old Kenyan environmental activist, has set a new Guinness World Record by hugging a tree for 48 hours straight. She began her record-breaking attempt on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 6:10 PM at John Michuki Memorial Park in Nairobi, and concluded on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 6:10 PM.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 24 hours and 21 minutes, held by Ghanaian journalist Abdul Hakim Awal.
Muthoni’s endeavor aims to highlight the therapeutic benefits of nature and promote environmental conservation. She believes that engaging with nature can significantly improve mental health and well-being.
During her 48-hour tree-hugging marathon, Muthoni remained in constant contact with the tree, taking short breaks only for essential needs. Her dedication underscores the profound connection between humans and the natural world.
