India’s first man in Space – Rakesh Sharma

Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, India’s first astronaut, continues to contribute significantly to the nation’s space endeavors. In a recent interview, he expressed admiration for India’s cost-effective space missions, noting that the world is impressed with India’s achievements in space science and technology.

Reflecting on his own space journey, Sharma highlighted the re-entry phase as the most thrilling part of his mission, sharing insights into the challenges and experiences of returning to Earth.

Looking ahead, Sharma emphasized the importance of space colonization, suggesting that humanity’s next milestone should be establishing colonies on the Moon.

Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian and 138th person to travel to space. He spent 7 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes aboard the Salyut 7 space station. With Sharma’s space voyage, India became the 14th nation in the world to send a man to outer space.
