Aanchal Thakur, hailing from Manali, Himachal Pradesh, made history as the first Indian to win an international skiing medal. She clinched a bronze in the slalom event at the Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup in Turkey in 2018.
In December 2021, Aanchal secured her second international medal by winning bronze in the giant slalom event at a Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) competition in Kolasin, Montenegro.
Aanchal’s achievements have significantly boosted the profile of winter sports in India, inspiring many young athletes to pursue skiing. Despite limited infrastructure and support for winter sports in the country, her dedication and success have highlighted the potential of Indian athletes on the international stage.As of January 2025, Aanchal continues to train and compete, aiming to qualify for future Winter Olympic Games.
