Porsa’s Nagaji Muktidham in Morena Enters India Book of Records for Its Beauty and Uniqueness

Madhya Pradesh’s Porsa in Morena district is now home to the country’s most unique Muktidham, earning a coveted place in the India Book of Records. Defying the conventional image of a cremation ground, the Nagaji Muktidham blends solemnity with serenity, transforming a place of farewell into a centre of beauty, community, and environmental care.

Unlike traditional cremation grounds, Nagaji Muktidham offers a picturesque and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors from across the region come to admire its greenery, intricate mehndi designs themed around Satyam Shivam Sundaram, and the soothing presence of birds. The space doubles as a community hub, hosting cultural programs, yoga sessions for seniors, and play areas for children.

The Muktidham’s transformation is the vision of Dr. Anil Gupta, who took a pledge 26 years ago to change its fate from a neglected site to a model of aesthetic and social utility. Today, it features houses for the departed crafted from discarded utensils, bamboo and wood provided free for the cremation of the needy, and medicinal plants that help neutralise harmful gases from cremations.

Developed as a tourist-friendly destination, Nagaji Muktidham also has its own website, inviting people to witness a space where dignity, spirituality, and sustainability coexist. This remarkable blend of tradition and innovation has now been officially recognised in the India Book of Records, making it a proud landmark for Morena district and the state of Madhya Pradesh.
