In a proud moment for the nation, Sagar Chandrakishor Kumbhare from Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, has created history by becoming the first Indian NCC cadet to display the longest 25-foot saffron flag and the Indian Tricolor on two towering peaks — Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft.) in Africa and Mount Yunam (20,049 ft.) in India.
This remarkable achievement was undertaken to commemorate the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and to celebrate India’s 76th Independence Day under the theme “Meri Maati Mera Desh.” Sagar’s feat symbolizes the spirit of valor, unity, and patriotism, reflecting the glorious legacy of India’s freedom and cultural pride.
On the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, and atop Mount Yunam in the Indian Himalayas, Sagar proudly unfurled the 25-foot saffron flag — representing bravery and strength — alongside the Indian national flag, sending a powerful message of national pride to the world.
Speaking about his accomplishment, Sagar said, “This is my tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose courage inspires me, and to my nation, whose soil I carried with me to these peaks. ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ is not just a slogan — it’s a sentiment that I wanted to echo from the world’s highest places.”
Sagar’s dual summits have earned him widespread acclaim, not only within the NCC community but also across India. His extraordinary journey stands as a shining example of youth leadership, adventure spirit, and undying love for the motherland.
