Australian Surfer Blake Johnston Breaks World Record with Over 30-Hour Surfing Marathon

Australian surfer Blake Johnston has officially smashed the world record for the longest surfing session, riding waves for an incredible more than 30 hours at Sydney’s Cronulla Beach.

The 40-year-old former professional surfer broke down in tears as he surpassed the previous record of 30 hours and 11 minutes, held by South Africa’s Josh Enslin. Johnston remained determined to stretch the new mark even further, aiming for a staggering 40-hour total.

Braving swarms of jellyfish, freezing night conditions, and the lurking presence of sharks, Johnston powered through under the floodlights, cheered on by hundreds of supporters lining the beach.

During one of his brief food and water breaks — the only moments he was allowed out of the water — a visibly exhausted but emotional Johnston told the crowd he felt “pretty cooked” but motivated to keep going for the cause.

The marathon surf wasn’t just about the record — Johnston was raising funds and awareness for mental health initiatives, a cause close to his heart following personal loss and challenges.

Johnston’s feat blends endurance, resilience, and passion, earning him global admiration and a well-earned place in the Guinness World Records.
