The world’s largest umbrella sculpture has officially been recognised by Guinness World Records, standing as a monumental symbol of design and engineering in the heart of the United Arab Emirates. The giant structure, created by the Khalifa Empowerment Program – Aqdar, measures an impressive 24.5 metres (80 ft 4.5 in) in diameter with a height of 15.22 metres (49 ft 11.2 in) making it the largest parasol/umbrella ever recorded.
Unveiled on 24 March 2018 in Abu Dhabi, the massive parasol was built as part of Emirates Happiness Events, celebrating community engagement and innovative public design. The structure’s enormous canopy stretches wide enough to shelter large gatherings of people, showcasing how art and utility can combine to create functional public installations recognised on the world stage.
The record‑setting umbrella not only pushes boundaries in scale but also reflects a growing trend of record‑worthy public art and architecture that attracts visitors and elevates cultural spaces. While umbrellas are usually everyday objects, this oversized sculpture turns them into a landmark piece of design and spectacle celebrated locally and internationally alike.
