Norwegian middle-distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen set new world indoor records for both the mile and the 1,500 meters at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Liévin, France. He completed the mile in 3:45.14, surpassing the previous record of 3:46.63 set by American Yared Nuguse just five days earlier. Ingebrigtsen also broke his own world indoor 1,500 meters record with a time of 3:29.63, improving on his 3:30.60 performance from the same event in 2022.
Ingebrigtsen’s performance in Liévin was exceptional. He passed through 400 meters in 56.39 seconds and 800 meters in 1:52.55, maintaining a strong pace throughout the race. A 26-second final lap helped him secure the world record.
This achievement adds to Ingebrigtsen’s impressive record, which includes world records in the 2,000 meters and 3,000 meters outdoors, as well as a world best for two miles. He also holds a European record of 3:43.73 for the mile, placing him third on the world all-time list.
