Smile, You’re on the Gomti Lucknow’s Iconic New Pedestrian Bridge Gets the Green Light

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over the Gomti River as part of efforts to improve connectivity along the Gomti Riverfront and enhance the city’s recreational spaces. The bridge envisioned as a modern symbol of Lucknow’s warmth and hospitality will be themed “Muskuraiye, Aap Lucknow Mein Hain.”

Designed as an iconic urban landmark, the bridge will span a main length of 180 metres with a breadth of 12 metres, offering ample room for pedestrians, including families and senior citizens. With access ramps on both sides, the total length stretches to approximately 380 metres, ensuring smooth and age-friendly movement.

Planned features include aesthetic lighting, landscaped walkways, and dedicated viewing points to provide scenic sights of the Gomti River particularly enhancing the evening riverfront experience for visitors and locals alike. The pedestrian bridge project is estimated to cost around ₹54–₹64 crore, with an ₹18.90 crore instalment already released to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to kick start construction.

Officials say the structure is expected not only to improve walkability and safety but also to boost tourism and recreation, adding a visually striking addition to Lucknow’s ever-evolving skyline. The bridge design was chosen through a national architectural competition, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal in line with the city’s cultural vibrancy.
