A major milestone in agricultural development and food production was marked in Sharjah with the official inauguration of the Mleiha Dairy Factory by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The state-of-the-art facility is part of a broader vision to boost sustainability and local food security.
During the ceremony, the ruler received a Guinness World Record certificate recognising the Mleiha Dairy Farm located in the Mleiha region as the world’s largest A2A2 cattle farm. This prestigious honour was awarded in recognition of the farm’s scale, which houses over 6,400 cows of the rare A2A2 breed, known for milk that contains only the A2 beta-casein protein, widely regarded for easier digestibility and potential health benefits.
The newly launched 20,000-square-metre facility boasts a production capacity of approximately 600 tonnes and is equipped with modern production and processing technologies that support high-volume dairy output. This includes advanced systems for milking, processing, quality control, and packaging of milk, yoghurt and other dairy products much of which uses environmentally friendly and recyclable technologies.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan described the Mleiha project as a decades-long dream that supports the emirate’s shift toward self-sufficiency and community health, emphasizing that producing healthy, high-quality food for residents was a core goal beyond profit.
The Guinness World Record recognition, along with the inauguration of the dairy factory, underscores Sharjah’s growing role in regional agricultural innovation and sustainable food production combining heritage-rooted ambitions with cutting-edge technology to strengthen food security and set new global benchmarks in dairy farming.
