A remarkable chess milestone was achieved on 28 December 2025 when the Karácsonyi family staged a 150-board team simultaneous exhibition in the Hungarian capital, creating what appears to be a unique world record in chess history.
Four siblings all rated above 2000 Elo shared the boards in rotation, relying on deep understanding of each other’s plans as they took consecutive moves across every game over the six-hour event. The team included IM Gellert Karacsonyi (2412), Kata Karacsonyi (2238), who earned her third Woman International Master (WIM) norm in December, Luca Karacsonyi (2064), and the youngest, Bank Karacsonyi (2107).
With strong opposition not just beginners but many experienced players the siblings completed 148 played-through games (two ended by forfeit), finishing with 109 wins, 22 draws and only 17 losses. Their performance not only showcased individual skill but also exceptional teamwork and shared strategic insight, a rare feat in chess simul history.
To the best available knowledge, no other event in chess history has featured four siblings of such playing strength conducting a simul on so many boards with such results, making this a truly unique and inspiring achievement in the global chess community. Fans and chess lovers in Budapest hailed the event as a memorable celebration of the game, with many hoping it will become a tradition and encourage more families and players to explore high-level collective play.
