PPG (NYSE: PPG) made history at the 2025 SEMA Show by achieving a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the largest simultaneous paint stirring challenge. The record-breaking event, which saw over 275 participants stirring paint together, was staged to dramatically highlight the inefficiency of manual labor before the company unveiled its revolutionary automation solution for the refinish industry.
The challenge served as a symbolic prelude to the launch of the new SEM MIX’N’SHAKE™ system, an automated stirring solution designed to eliminate the time-consuming and inconsistent manual effort still common in collision repair body shops. A Guinness World Records official was on-site to verify the count and confirm the new world record.
The SEM MIX’N’SHAKE system promises to transform body shop operations by producing a fully homogenized car paint mix in less than 60 seconds.
Boost Productivity: Recover up to 6% more productive work hours annually by eliminating manual mixing time.
Improve Quality: Ensure consistent paint quality and reduce costly rework.
Reduce Costs: Cut sundry expenses, such as stirring sticks and disposable cups, by up to 10%.
“This was more than a record-setting event – it was a symbolic moment for the industry,” said Rodolfo Ramirez, PPG vice president, Automotive Refinish Coatings, Americas. “By showing how much time and effort shops still spend on mixing, we helped our customers see the value of automation.”
The Mix’n’Shake system is an integral part of PPG’s broader strategy to digitize and automate the collision repair sector. It connects seamlessly with the PPG LINQ™ digital ecosystem and complements existing innovations like the PPG MOONWALK® automated mixing system. Together, these technologies help shops reduce waste, increase throughput, and free technicians to focus on higher-value repair tasks.
In a final gesture of community support, the substantial amount of paint used during the record-setting stirring challenge will be donated to Dixie Technical College in St. George, Utah, to support hands-on learning for students in automotive and collision repair technology.
The system will be branded as SEM Mix’n’Shake in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and as PPG Mix’n’Shake across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.
