Born in a small village in Assam, Simu Das faced immense challenges from the very beginning. When her father learned that she was visually impaired, he refused to take responsibility for her care. However, Simu’s mother stood by her, despite battling chronic illness and struggling to provide two meals a day for the family.
Even amidst these hardships, Simu nurtured a small but powerful dream – to play cricket. From a young age, cricket brought her joy and hope, but the path forward seemed uncertain. With no coach, no proper facilities, and no clear guidance, her dream could have easily faded away.
Everything changed when Simu learned about an organization called Battle for Blindness, which supports visually impaired girls by providing free accommodation, food, education, and skill-building opportunities. The organization encouraged girls like Simu to pursue their passions and helped them develop their talents.
When Simu expressed her desire to become a cricketer, the team at Battle for Blindness fully supported her and provided cricket training. Her dedication, courage, and relentless effort began to pay off. Simu’s talent and perseverance earned her a place on India’s Blind Women’s Cricket Team, where she played a pivotal role in the World Cup final between India and Nepal.
Simu’s story is not just about cricket; it’s a testament to determination, resilience, and the impact of the right support. Alongside her sporting achievements, Simu is preparing for the future by learning typing skills and pursuing government job exams, proving her commitment to personal growth beyond the cricket field.
From a girl struggling to survive in a remote village to a national-level cricket champion, Simu Das has become an inspiration for countless women and girls across India. Her journey underscores that with courage, hard work, and guidance, no dream is too big to achieve.
Simu Das continues to shine as a role model, not only raising the profile of women’s cricket in India but also inspiring a generation to overcome challenges and chase their dreams, no matter the odds.
