During the catastrophic flood caused by the breach of the Panshet-Khadakwasla dam, Late Shri Kisan Mahadev Khamitkar, a boat operator at Peshwe Park, Pune, showcased extraordinary bravery and selflessness.
Without regard for his own safety or that of his family, Shri Khamitkar courageously used his boat to rescue 175 flood-affected individuals, primarily women and children, navigating through perilous waters to bring them safely ashore.
This remarkable individual rescue mission marked the first of its kind in India, earning him a new World Record for his humanitarian efforts during the disaster. The legacy of his courage continues to be honored by Shri Sanjay Yallappa Khamitkar and family, who support this historic recognition.
Shri Khamitkar’s heroism remains a powerful reminder of courage and compassion in the face of adversity, inspiring generations to come.
