Legendary actor and philanthropist Shri Konidela Chiranjeevi has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Indian cinema and the arts.
Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Chiranjeevi has been a towering presence in the Telugu film industry for over four decades. With a career spanning more than 150 films, his impact on Indian cinema — both in terms of artistry and cultural influence — is unparalleled.
Chiranjeevi, fondly known as the “Megastar”, redefined commercial cinema in South India. With iconic performances in films such as Indra, Tagore, Shankar Dada MBBS, Swayamkrushi, and Rudraveena, he has entertained millions and brought powerful social messages to the screen.
Renowned for his dynamic acting, unmatched dance moves, and charismatic screen presence, Chiranjeevi has also received numerous accolades including Nandi Awards, Filmfare Awards, and the Padma Bhushan (2006).
Beyond cinema, Chiranjeevi has contributed significantly to public service and philanthropy. Through the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust, he has supported blood and eye donation drives, disaster relief, and healthcare initiatives, benefiting lakhs across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
His brief yet impactful foray into politics also demonstrated his commitment to public welfare.
The Padma Vibhushan acknowledges Chiranjeevi’s lifelong dedication to the arts, his cultural impact across India, and his inspirational role for generations of artists and audiences.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him, saying:
“Chiranjeevi garu is a cultural icon whose cinematic legacy has transcended borders. His service through the arts and philanthropy continues to uplift and inspire.”
Fans, fellow actors, and admirers across the globe have hailed the announcement as a long-overdue recognition of Chiranjeevi’s legendary status in Indian cinema.
With the Padma Vibhushan, India honours not just a superstar, but a symbol of artistic excellence, humility, and service.
