For many, golf is a weekend escape. For Josh Simpson, it’s become a full-time mission of remembrance and purpose. The 27-year-old from King’s Lynn has traded in his business suit for a set of golf clubs, setting out to break the Guinness World Record for the most golf courses played in a single year.
The current record stands at 580 courses, set by American golfer Patrick Koenig. But Simpson, now living out of a campervan, is determined to go further — both on the greens and in honoring his late mother.
“Mum never got the opportunity to retire and that put everything into perspective,” Simpson shared on BBC Radio Norfolk. “It’s in memory of her and we’re raising money for two charities.”
His mother’s sudden passing after a cancer diagnosis gave Simpson the push to reevaluate life and pursue a passion with greater meaning. His challenge isn’t just about birdies and bunkers — it’s about legacy, love, and making every round count.
Simpson is using the journey to raise funds for cancer and mental health charities, while inviting fellow golf lovers to support, follow along, or even join him for a round. As he drives from course to course across the UK and beyond, each hole is a step closer to a record — and a tribute to a mother who inspired a life lived boldly.
