national pride and international cooperation, an enormous Israeli flag was unfurled in the Negev Desert, earning recognition as the world’s largest flag at the time and securing a place in the Guinness World Records.
The monumental flag measuring approximately 660 metres (2,165 feet) long and 100 metres (330 feet) wide was donated and crafted by Filipino entrepreneur Grace Galindez‑Gupana. The massive blue‑and‑white banner, weighing over 5.2 tonnes, was created to honour 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Israel and was unfurled beneath the ancient fortress of Masada, captivating spectators against a dramatic desert backdrop.
Representatives from Guinness World Records were on site to officially measure and verify the flag, which at the time surpassed all previous records for size. Volunteers and designers spent weeks sewing and assembling the massive cloth, with the finished flag covering an area equivalent to two football stadiums.
The record‑setting moment not only showcased remarkable scale and teamwork but also highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations and the symbolic importance of the Israeli flag as a cultural and historic emblem.
