world’s largest bottle-to-bottle recycling plant, a landmark facility that is transforming plastic waste into new life through advanced circular-economy technology. Operated by Indorama Ventures, one of the world’s leading petrochemical and packaging companies, the plant represents a major step toward sustainable plastic use.
The facility is designed to recycle billions of used PET plastic bottles every year, converting them directly back into food-grade recycled PET (rPET) bottles. This “bottle-to-bottle” process allows plastic to be reused repeatedly without losing quality, significantly reducing the need for virgin plastic production.
Using state-of-the-art sorting, washing, and purification systems, the plant meets strict international food-safety standards. The recycled material produced here is used by global beverage brands, helping them meet sustainability targets and reduce carbon emissions.
At full capacity, the Karawang plant processes more than 2 billion post-consumer plastic bottles annually, making it the largest facility of its kind anywhere in the world. It also plays a critical role in reducing ocean plastic pollution in Southeast Asia, one of the regions most affected by plastic waste.
Beyond technology, the project supports local communities by creating jobs and strengthening recycling supply chains. It also demonstrates how large-scale industrial solutions can align environmental responsibility with economic growth.
