Mizoram’s 9‑Year‑Old Singing Prodigy Esther Hnamte Honoured with National Bal Puraskar

From the serene hills of Mizoram to the nation’s capital, 9‑year‑old singing sensation Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte made the country proud by receiving the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2025 — India’s highest civilian honour for children — from President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Born and raised in Lunglei, Mizoram, to a modest family, Esther began singing at just three years old, winning hearts in local churches with her soulful voice. Her renditions of patriotic songs — especially AR Rahman’s “Maa Tujhe Salaam” and the national anthem — went viral and earned her national acclaim, inspiring millions with her passion for music and patriotism.

Esther has become the first child from Mizoram to receive the prestigious Bal Puraskar, recognised for her outstanding contribution to art and culture at such a young age. Her performances have been praised by leaders across the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials, for fostering unity and celebrating India’s rich cultural diversity.

The award not only honours her remarkable musical talent but also highlights a journey of determination and cultural pride — from singing in small gatherings to standing on the national stage as an inspiration to young artists across India.

Esther’s story reminds the nation that talent has no boundaries, and that youthful passion can echo far beyond humble beginnings, bringing glory not just to her home state of Mizoram but to the entire country.
