Largest Sticky Rice Cake

Cambodia has claimed a Guinness World Record for creating the largest sticky rice cake ever recorded — a colossal culinary feat that captivated both locals and visitors alike. During the Angkor Sankranta festival in Siem Reap province on 13 April 2015, a team of more than 100 Cambodian chefs prepared an enormous traditional sticky rice cake known as num ansom. The cake weighed an astonishing 4,040 kg (8,906 lb 10 oz) — a record‑breaking total that stood out as one of the largest food‑related world records.

Wrapped and assembled using traditional banana leaves, the cake measured 5.20 m (17 ft 1 in) long with a 1.13 m (3 ft 8 in) diameter, symbolising Cambodia’s rich culinary heritage and community spirit.

Num ansom is a beloved part of Khmer culture, often enjoyed during major celebrations such as Khmer New Year and Pchum Ben, and this record‑setting creation highlighted both the craftsmanship of Cambodian chefs and the unifying power of shared food traditions. The record continues to be a source of national pride and a reminder of how cultural food practices can bring people together in record‑breaking style.
