A passionate photography enthusiast has snapped up global recognition by setting a Guinness World Record for the largest instant camera collection in the world. Wong Ting Man of Hong Kong officially holds this unique title, showcasing his extraordinary devotion to analogue photography.
Wong’s impressive archive comprises 1,042 instant cameras, all capable of producing a finished, hard‑copy photo without the need for separate printing or processing — the classic format popularised by brands like Polaroid.
The collection began in 1992, when Wong’s interest in instant photography took root. Over the years, he expanded his collection rapidly, especially after the rise of online marketplaces made rare and vintage camera models easier to find. At its peak, Wong was acquiring nearly 20 cameras per week — a pace that eventually required storage space in a rented facility outside his home.
Wong’s vast assortment includes beloved favourites and uncommon models, reflecting the rich history and enduring appeal of instant photography. The estimated value of his collection was around HK$1 million (approximately £80,000) at the time it was recognised in May 2011 — a milestone that fascinated camera lovers and collectors worldwide.
Despite the digital age’s dominance in imaging technology, Wong’s achievement highlights the nostalgia and timeless charm of analogue photography, inspiring collectors and creatives across generations.
