The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has kicked off 2026 in spectacular fashion, earning a Guinness World Records title for the largest aerial display of a phoenix formed by multirotor drones during its New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The stunning 15-minute drone and fireworks show lit up the night sky along Ras Al Khaimah’s waterfront, with 2,300 drones flying in precise formation to create a giant phoenix the mythical symbol of renewal and rebirth. Among these were 1,000 pyro-equipped drones that illuminated the phoenix’s wings with dramatic flame-like effects as the figure seemed to soar above the coastline.
The drone spectacle also featured a second formation titled “The Welcome,” depicting a human figure rising from the sea with open arms symbolising the emirate’s spirit of hospitality and openness.
As midnight approached, the drone show transitioned seamlessly into a six-kilometre fireworks display stretching from Marjan Island to Al Hamra, with hundreds of fireworks launched in timed waves that filled the sky with colour and sound. Thousands of residents and visitors gathered along the beachfront to witness the combined aerial artistry and pyrotechnics, alongside live entertainment throughout the night.
The record-breaking phoenix drone display not only marks a remarkable technological and artistic achievement but also highlights Ras Al Khaimah’s growing reputation as a global destination for world-class celebrations that blend innovation, culture, and community spirit.
