8 Women Craft World’s Largest Jute Bag

Eight women have stitched their way into the Guinness Book of World Records by creating the world’s largest jute bag. The massive eco-friendly creation measures approximately 30.68 metres wide and 24.87 metres long, dwarfing everyday totes and showcasing the potential of sustainable materials.

The record-breaking jute bag was revealed at the St. Thomas School Ground in Kidderpore, where its enormous dimensions comparable to the height of an eight-storey building drew amazement from onlookers and officials alike. The previous Guinness record was held by a jute bag manufactured in the UK.

What makes this achievement even more inspiring is the background of some of the women involved. Four of them were recently released from a state correctional home and had learned jute-craft techniques during their stay, while the others came from underprivileged sections of society. Together, they turned their skills into a record-setting work of art that also champions sustainability, empowerment, and creative collaboration.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Vinit Kumar, Chairman of the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust, along with representatives from the National Jute Board and Correctional Services, highlighting the wider community support for this noteworthy achievement. This monumental jute bag isn’t just a world record holder it’s a powerful symbol of how eco-friendly materials and collective creativity can inspire change and uplift communities.
