In a stunning fusion of art and patriotism, the city of Dombivli has etched its name into the history books. A massive mosaic of Bharat Mata, created using over 2.5 lakh (250,000) colored earthen lamps (diyas), has officially set a new world record.
The record was recognized by World Records India during the ongoing “Dombivli Utsav” at the Gymkhana Ground.
The installation is not just a feat of scale but a detailed work of art. Here are the key statistics of the record:
- Size: 95 feet in height and 75 feet in width.
- Materials: More than 2.5 lakh hand-painted, multicolored clay diyas.
- Timeframe: It took a team of dedicated artists and volunteers 9 days of continuous work to complete.
- Lead Artists: The project was spearheaded by renowned artists Chetan Raut, along with the father-son duo Prabhu Kapse and Vaibhav Kapse.
The initiative was organized by the Dombivlikar – Ek Sanskrutik Parivar (Dombivlikar Cultural Family), under the leadership of Maharashtra BJP State President Ravindra Chavan.
The primary motivation behind this monumental task was to commemorate the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” India’s national song. According to the organizers, the goal was to blend traditional Indian craftsmanship with a powerful message of national unity and devotion.
“This isn’t just an art project; it is a symbol of our collective reverence for Bharat Mata. We wanted to celebrate 150 years of Vande Mataram in a way that would be remembered for generations,” said Ravindra Chavan during the unveiling.
The mosaic has become a major attraction for residents and tourists alike. The shimmering display of lights, arranged to form the iconic image of Bharat Mata, is currently open for public viewing at the Dombivli Gymkhana Ground until December 28, 2025.
Thousands of visitors have been flocking to the venue each evening to witness the glowing tribute, which occupies a significant portion of the festival grounds.
