Weymouth’s Valiant World Record Attempt Draws Over 1,200 Elves

The streets of this historic coastal town were awash in green and red on Saturday, November 29, 2025, as hundreds of participants donned festive elf costumes in a spirited attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as elves. Though the current world benchmark of 1,762 elves set in Bangkok, Thailand in 2014 still stands, the Weymouth Elf Gathering emerged as a memorable local milestone this holiday season.

Organisers counted a total of 1,276 qualified elf participants at the Weymouth Pavilion, each clad in the traditional green and red tunics, pointed red hats and visible elf ears required to meet official record‑attempt standards. Despite a handful of disqualifications for imperfect costumes, the spirited turnout marked the largest festive costume gathering in the town’s history.

The event was the highlight of Weymouth’s Christmas light switch‑on festivities, drawing families, performers and holiday enthusiasts alike. After the official count, a cheerful parade of elves — led by stilt walkers, local entertainers and holiday floats — wound through the town centre, spreading festive joy to residents and visitors.

Organisers said the atmosphere was electric and that the growing numbers year after year reflect the community’s enthusiasm for seasonal celebrations. The town’s elf brigade may not have dethroned the longstanding record, but it has firmly cemented Weymouth’s own elf legacy and set the stage for even bigger attempts in the future.

The tallest challenge remains the Bangkok record, where 1,762 people dressed as Santa’s elves gathered and were officially recognised by Guinness World Records.
