Romania’s Giant Wooden Spoon Sets World Record in Mioveni

The small Romanian town of Mioveni has carved its name into global record books with an extraordinary feat of craftsmanship — the world’s longest carved wooden spoon, officially recognised as a world record by the World Record Academy.

The colossal wooden spoon, created by meșterul popular Ion Rodoș and his son Gheorghe Rodoș, measures an impressive 17.79 metres (58 ft 4.4 in) in length and 1.50 metres (4 ft 11 in) at its widest point.

Crafted in just 14 days using the wood from two towering lime trees, the spoon is more than a record-breaker — it’s a stunning work of folk art, adorned with traditional Romanian motifs and the emblem of Mioveni. Originally established on 7 June 2013, the record-setting wooden spoon has since become a celebrated cultural landmark. It stands proudly near the historic Cula Racovița and is now displayed on a specially constructed platform with protective roofing to preserve its grandeur.
