In a groundbreaking achievement for Indian squash, 15-year-old Anika Dubey from Pune has become the youngest-ever champion of the U-19 Junior National Squash Championship, held this week in Chennai.
Anika, trained under renowned coach Abhinav Sinha at the Chance2Sports Foundation, stunned the competition by dominating opponents who were older and far more experienced. Her victory is being celebrated as a defining moment in Indian junior squash.
Anika attributed her success to meticulous mental preparation and tactical planning — tools she honed under her coach’s guidance. She also credited meditation and breathing techniques for helping her stay calm under pressure during intense matches.
Currently studying in Class 10, Anika admitted juggling academics and elite-level training is difficult but said her parents have been her strongest support system. “It’s challenging, but they always encourage me to give my best both on court and in school,” she said.
This latest win marks Anika’s fourth consecutive national title, further solidifying her position as one of India’s most promising young athletes. Looking ahead, she has set her sights on senior and international circuits, including major PSA World Tour events.
Her 2025 season has already been impressive, with bronze medals in the Asian Junior Individual (U-17) and Asian Junior Team (U-19) Championships, along with participation in the prestigious World Junior Championships.
With this historic victory, Anika Dubey’s journey from a young enthusiast to a national champion continues to inspire aspiring athletes across India.
