A single bottle of nail polish has shattered the luxury barrier, with the Azature Black Diamond Nail Polish cementing its title as the world’s most expensive cosmetic item, priced at a staggering ₹1,63,66,000 (approximately $250,000 USD). The price tag makes the ritzy lacquer more costly than at least three luxury Mercedes-Benz GLA SUVs.
The exorbitant price is due to an unprecedented ingredient: the 14.7-millilitre bottle is infused with an incredible 267 carats of crushed black diamonds.
Created by Los Angeles-based fine jeweller Azature Pogosian, often referred to as the “Black Diamond King,” the limited-edition lacquer transforms a simple manicure into a monumental investment.
The polish is not merely sprinkled with diamond dust; the entire formulation is built around the precious stone. The diamond-infused product alone is estimated to account for a vast majority of the price, with the remaining cost covering the exclusive packaging, which includes a handmade platinum sterling cap adorned with an additional 60 hand-set black diamonds.
The one-of-a-kind bottle has captured global attention since its launch, with reports indicating that it has already been sold to a small number of ultra-wealthy buyers, proving that for some, luxury knows no bounds, even in a bottle of nail paint.
While the original Azature Black Diamond polish remains unattainable for almost everyone, the brand capitalized on its viral fame by releasing a more accessible $25 version. This “affordable” option still contains one real black diamond in the formula, allowing consumers a taste of the diamond-infused trend without requiring a second mortgage.
Celebrities like Kelly Osbourne and Toni Braxton first brought the diamond manicure into the public eye, either by wearing the $250,000 polish or the brand’s even more extravagant $1 million white diamond variant for special events. The launch firmly positions Azature as a pioneer in melding high jewellery with high fashion cosmetics.
