India’s Srini Gopalan Named CEO of T-Mobile USA, World’s Largest Telecom Firm

In a major corporate announcement, T-Mobile US, one of America’s largest telecommunications companies, has named current Chief Operating Officer Srini Gopalan as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective November 1, 2025.

Gopalan’s elevation places him at the helm of the multi-billion dollar company, making him the latest Indian-origin executive to lead a major US corporation, joining a distinguished group that includes the CEOs of Microsoft, Google, and IBM.

Srini Gopalan’s impressive journey to the top leadership role is rooted in a strong Indian academic background and decades of global telecom and tech experience:

  • Education: Gopalan is an alumnus of Delhi Public School (DPS), R.K. Puram, and holds a postgraduate degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
  • Global Experience: Before joining T-Mobile, he held senior leadership positions across multiple continents, including CEO of Deutsche Telekom’s successful Germany business and top roles at Vodafone and Bharti Airtel.

His appointment comes at a time when the US is engaged in intense debates surrounding skilled immigration and the H1-B visa program, a path that many Indian professionals, including Gopalan, have historically used to enter the country’s corporate sector.

Gopalan, who will succeed Mike Sievert, stated he is committed to building on the company’s “Un-carrier” strategy, focusing on leveraging T-Mobile’s “America’s best network” and advanced digital and AI capabilities to enhance the customer experience. The outgoing CEO, Sievert, will transition to a newly created role as Vice Chairman.
