Bihar officially marked its entry onto the world cricket map with the inauguration of a massive new international stadium in Rajgir, Nalanda district. The new venue is now the second-largest cricket stadium in India, only behind the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Rajgir International Cricket Stadium, a key component of the Rajgir Sports Complex, was unveiled by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

The project, which saw its estimated cost increase from an initial ₹740 crore to ₹1,121 crore to accommodate a slew of modern facilities, is poised to transform Bihar’s sporting future.
The stadium features a five-story pavilion, state-of-the-art facilities for players, media, and spectators, as well as a pitch made using a blend of high-quality soil to ensure a top-tier playing surface.
The new stadium is a major boost for the state, which has long lacked world-class cricket infrastructure to host major national and international fixtures. The government has cleared the path for the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) to operate and maintain the venue, with hopes of bringing high-profile matches, including Ranji Trophy games and possibly IPL fixtures, to Rajgir soon.
