Ahmedabad’s 75 Lakh Postcard Tribute to PM Modi Aims for Guinness World Record

In a massive demonstration of public appreciation, the state of Gujarat is poised to enter the Guinness World Records for the “largest number of handwritten postcards sent to a head of state.” The initiative, a key event of “Vikas Week” (Development Week) celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday year, has so far amassed over 1 crore 11 lakh (11.1 million) postcards from citizens.

The highlight of the campaign took place at the iconic Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, where over 75,000 postcards were arranged to create a symbolic replica of the number 75 lakh. The Guinness World Records team was present to validate the monumental display and the overall count.

The “Postcard to PM Modi” campaign was initiated on September 17, primarily driven by cooperative societies across Gujarat. According to Mitesh Pandya, Registrar of the Cooperative Societies, the goal was to allow individuals who have benefited from various government schemes—such as GST reductions, the Swadeshi movement, and infrastructure development—to personally express their thanks.

“These postcards are not only messages of support but also testimonies to how government initiatives have positively impacted daily lives—from tax relief and infrastructure to job creation and promotion of indigenous products,” said Pandya.

While the symbolic display at the Riverfront served to visually represent the massive scale of participation, the Guinness team is currently in the process of verifying the over 11.1 million individual submissions. If confirmed, the feat will set a new world record, underscoring the deep public engagement with the Prime Minister’s two decades of leadership, starting from his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The “Vikas Week” celebration, which runs from October 7 to 15, stands as a glowing tribute to the state’s journey of governance and development.
