96-Year-Old Irene Edge Sets Record at Worcester Pitchcroft Parkrun

Age is clearly just a number for 96-year-old Irene Edge, who powered her way to a new age-group record at the Worcester Pitchcroft parkrun on September 27th.

Mrs. Edge, who hails from near Halesowen, completed the 5km course in a remarkable time of one hour and 20 minutes.

The achievement has been hailed by event organisers as “world class” after a calculation using the World Masters Athletics (WMA) grading system. The WMA grading accounts for age, meaning her performance is comparable to elite athletes.

Encouraged to participate by her daughters, Jacqui Burt and Angela Podmore, Mrs. Edge embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. Following her successful debut, she expressed her delight, stating that she “loved every minute” of the parkrun and is already planning her next outing.

The newly crowned age-group record holder now has her sights set on a repeat performance, with plans to participate in another parkrun event in Evesham. Her inspiring run serves as a powerful reminder that fitness and a love for sport know no age limit.
