Telangana’s Bathukamma Festival Sets Two New Guinness World Records

The Telangana government’s celebration of the annual Bathukamma festival achieved spectacular international recognition last evening, setting two new Guinness World Records at the Saroornagar Stadium in Hyderabad.

The event, which showcased the vibrant cultural heritage of the state, was officially validated by representatives of Guinness World Records, who presented the certificates to State Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and Women Development Minister Anasuya Sitakka.

The two records were set by contrasting yet equally magnificent displays of tradition and scale:

  1. Largest Bathukamma Floral Decoration: A colossal floral arrangement, the largest ever constructed, was officially measured. The stunning structure stood at 63.11 feet high and 11 feet wide, incorporating approximately seven tonnes of flowers. The Bathukamma was a labour of love, built by around 300 workers over 72 hours using a frame of metal and bamboo adorned with the seasonal blossoms.
  2. Largest Synchronised Folk Dance: The second record was achieved for a highly synchronised performance of the Bathukamma folk dance by a large group of women. The final count of confirmed participants who performed the traditional circular dance was 1,354, a figure accepted by Guinness World Records for the largest such performance.

Adding a touch of international glamour to the historic occasion was the presence of Miss World 2025 Opal Suchata Chuangsri and the entire Miss World team, along with several pageant finalists. Their attendance underscored the global visibility and cultural significance of the Bathukamma festival.

Speaking at the event, Tourism Minister Krishna Rao praised the meticulous efforts of all involved, congratulating “everyone who made the record possible.”

Valluru Kranthi, Managing Director of the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC), confirmed the final participant count and the rigorous process involved, emphasizing the dedication of the women who perfectly executed the synchronised performance to bring global recognition to the state’s iconic festival of flowers.
