The state of Telangana is gearing up for a massive cultural spectacle with the goal of setting a Guinness World Record for the largest-ever Bathukamma celebrations. The record attempt, featuring approximately 10,000 women, is scheduled to take place at Hyderabad’s Saroornagar Stadium on Sunday, September 29.
The event is the centerpiece of the nine-day annual floral festival, which runs from September 21 to 30 and is a vibrant celebration of life and womanhood. The state government is aiming to surpass the record for the most participants in a traditional dance, which was set in Kerala during the 2023 Onam festival.
The record-breaking attempt will be accompanied by the construction of a giant 63-foot-tall Bathukamma—a tiered floral arrangement symbolizing a temple tower—which will be the tallest ever created. This supersedes an earlier plan for a 50-foot installation.
Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao, Konda Surekha, and Seethakka reviewed the preparations, directing officials to ensure elaborate arrangements for the thousands of participants, who will include women from self-help groups, government employees, and IT professionals.
