The Telangana government has announced a change in plans for its ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record during the annual Bathukamma Festival. The massive gathering, which was originally scheduled for September 28 at the LB Stadium, has been postponed to September 29 and the venue has been shifted to Saroornagar Stadium.
The decision to postpone the event was reportedly made due to an unfavorable rain forecast for the initially planned date and to better manage the expected massive turnout of participants.
The event aims to set a new world record for the largest gathering of women performing the traditional Bathukamma celebration. Around 10,000 women are expected to participate, performing the floral festival alongside a towering 60-foot-tall Bathukamma—the tallest ever constructed for the festival. The state is specifically aiming to surpass the previous record set during the 2023 Onam festival in Thrissur, Kerala, where over 7,000 women performed a synchronized dance.
The nine-day Bathukamma festival, which began on September 21, is Telangana’s state floral festival, celebrating life, womanhood, and the spirit of community. Officials are confident that despite the change in schedule, the event at Saroornagar Stadium will be a grand success, bringing global attention to Telangana’s vibrant cultural heritage.
