Tampa Hosts World’s Largest Flag Football Tournament with Nearly 12,000 Players

Flag football has officially made history, thanks to a massive tournament in Tampa, Florida. On January 18, 2025, the Sportsplex of Tampa Bay became the epicenter for a new Guinness World Records title for the largest flag football tournament ever held.

The record was set by USA Flag, a leading provider of flag football tournaments, in partnership with Bodyarmor Sports Drink. A staggering 11,779 participants gathered to compete, easily surpassing the minimum requirement of 3,900 participants for the new record.

The event, officially named the 2025 Flag Football World Championships, brought together over 1,300 teams from more than 40 states and 13 countries. This milestone is a powerful indicator of the sport’s surging global popularity and its trajectory toward becoming a major international event.

“This is more than just a record—it’s a defining moment for the sport,” said a spokesperson for USA Flag. “Flag football has been growing at an unprecedented rate, and this event is proof of its momentum. The demand for structured, competitive tournaments is stronger than ever, and we are excited to lead the charge in bringing the sport to a global audience.”

The record-breaking tournament featured a wide range of divisions, including youth, high school, collegiate, and adult categories. The event not only created lasting memories for the thousands of athletes involved but also highlighted the sport’s growing commercial appeal and its potential for Olympic inclusion.
