In a powerful testament to the human spirit, Syrian-born content creator Adnan Almousa Alfermli has defied the odds and proved his naysayers wrong by securing not one but two Guinness World Records titles. His incredible achievements have been immortalized in the pages of the Guinness World Records 2025 book, solidifying his status as a record-breaking inspiration.
Despite an 80% disability that requires him to use a wheelchair, the 27-year-old war refugee has achieved extraordinary athletic results. His first record, set on November 23, 2023, was for the most pull-ups in a wheelchair in one minute (male), with a total of 10 repetitions. Not content with just one title, he followed up the next day by setting the record for the heaviest single repetition weighted pull-up in a wheelchair, lifting a remarkable 32.60 kg (71 lb 12 oz).
Alfermli’s journey is a story of resilience and determination. At the age of 14, while living in Homs, Syria, he was struck by a sniper’s bullet, an injury that left him with permanent damage to his neck and back. After enduring over 12 surgeries and a grueling two-year hospital stay, he and his family eventually found a new home in Spain.
“They always tell me I will not be able to do something, but I am going to do it and make it a world record,” he said, reflecting on his incredible journey.
His ambition doesn’t stop with these two records. The young athlete, who is also an avid wheelchair basketball player, has his sights set on even greater challenges, including qualifying for the Paralympics as a handcyclist. His record-breaking achievements are part of a larger mission to inspire others and serve as a beacon of hope for those who have been affected by war and disability.
