India’s young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has shattered a long-standing record in the U19 cricket circuit, delivering a stellar performance against Australia at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane on Wednesday, September 24. The 14-year-old not only slammed his first fifty-plus score on Australian soil but also eclipsed a record previously held by a U19 World Cup-winning captain.
After Australia inserted the visitors to bat first, Suryavanshi looked in sublime form, smashing a fiery 70 runs off just 68 deliveries in the first innings. His knock was a masterclass in aggressive stroke play, featuring five crisp fours and an astonishing six massive sixes, as he swept the Aussie bowlers all around the park.
It was during this stroke-filled innings that the Rajasthan Royals’ southpaw created a world record. Coming into the clash, Suryavanshi had 35 sixes to his name in Youth ODIs, trailing India’s former U19 World Cup-winning skipper Unmukt Chand’s record of 38. With his fourth six of the innings, the 14-year-old surpassed the 2012 World Cup-winning captain to set the new world record for the most sixes hit in Youth ODIs.
Suryavanshi’s monumental achievement further solidifies his status as one of the brightest talents in the junior circuit, signaling his readiness for the senior stage and raising expectations for India’s upcoming U19 campaigns.
