In a spectacular and record-breaking feat of film promotion, a colossal movie poster for the film “Baahubali: The Beginning” was unveiled in Kochi, Kerala. The monumental creation, which spanned an astonishing 4,793.65 square meters (51,598.21 square feet), has officially been certified by Guinness World Records as the largest movie poster ever made.
The poster, equivalent in size to 18 tennis courts, was laid out on the ground of the Sacred Hearts Ground in Thevara, Kochi, on June 27, 2015. The record was officially verified a few weeks later, cementing the film’s place in history before its massive box office success.
The audacious marketing campaign was executed by Global United Media Company, the film’s distributor in Kerala. The team worked tirelessly for three days to create the massive promotional material, which depicted the film’s star, Prabhas, in a majestic pose, holding a sword high.
The poster shattered the previous record of 4,709.30 square meters, which was held by a political party in Istanbul, Turkey. The move was part of a larger, high-budget promotional push for the film, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, which was, at the time, one of the most expensive productions in Indian cinema. The record-setting poster not only generated immense buzz but also set a new global benchmark for film publicity stunts, showcasing the ambition and scale of the Indian film industry.
