The Dubai Mallathon, a month-long community sports initiative, concluded its inaugural run on Sunday, attracting over 40,000 participants and setting a new Guinness World Record.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the event transformed nine of the city’s shopping centers into indoor fitness tracks, providing a unique, air-conditioned venue for runners and walkers to stay active during the hot summer months.
The record for the “most runners in a mall run event” was officially set during the Mallathon’s closing race at Dubai Hills Mall, which saw 1,392 participants take part. This achievement, a testament to the initiative’s strong community engagement, adds to Dubai’s growing list of global milestones in sports and innovation.
“The overwhelming participation of young people, who formed the majority, highlights their key role in the success of such initiatives,” said Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs. He added that the event reflects the leadership’s commitment to embedding sports into daily life and fostering a healthier, more active society.
Over its 31-day run, participants collectively logged more than 120 million steps. The program offered a range of activities, from community races and walks to a full 42-kilometer marathon on the final day, demonstrating its appeal to all ages and fitness levels.
The success of the Dubai Mallathon is seen as a significant step in the emirate’s drive to become a global hub for innovative events that blend fitness, community spirit, and a commitment to a high quality of life.
