Big Green Egg Celebrates 50 Years with Record-Breaking Chicken Wing Feast

Barbecue grill company Big Green Egg celebrated its 50th anniversary in a truly monumental way, setting a Guinness World Records title for the “largest serving of chicken wings” at their annual Eggtoberfest event. The record-breaking feat, which took place on October 5, 2024, resulted in an astonishing 297.5 kg (655 lb 12.8 oz) of chicken wings, a total weight roughly equivalent to three baby elephants.

The massive culinary undertaking was part of a larger celebration of the company’s 50 years in business, a journey that began with its founder, Ed Fisher, selling kamado-style grills from a single store. The record attempt, held in Lawrenceville, Georgia, at the company’s traditional gathering of grilling fans and chefs, comfortably surpassed the minimum requirement of 250 kg (551 lb).

A team of dedicated chefs and grill masters prepared the colossal batch of wings on 47 of the company’s extra-large grills. The wings, coated in “Ed’s Famous Wing Sauce,” were officially weighed by personnel from the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

The event, which drew thousands of “Eggheads” (the company’s loyal fan base), was not just a celebration of live-fire cooking but also an opportunity to give back. A significant portion of the record-breaking wings was served to festival-goers, with the remainder donated to local charity groups, including Lettum’ Eat, a local meal ministry that helps feed families in need.

This Guinness World Records title is a testament to the community spirit and passion that Big Green Egg has fostered over five decades, solidifying its legacy as a leader in outdoor cooking.
