In a remarkable display of dexterity and cultural passion, a young Bangladeshi woman has officially claimed a Guinness World Records title with her impressive chopstick skills. Sumaiya Khan, 24, from Dhaka, set a new record for the most rice grains eaten in one minute using chopsticks, consuming a total of 37 grains and easily surpassing the previous record of 27.
The record-breaking attempt, which took place on February 17, 2024, required immense focus and precision. According to the rules, Khan had to eat one single grain at a time using her chopsticks. If she picked up more than one grain, the entire attempt would be disqualified.
Khan, a self-professed fan of Korean culture, said her love for ramen and other Korean dishes is what inspired her to start using chopsticks for all her meals several years ago. “I’ve been eating with chopsticks for a few years, so I know how to pick up a grain of rice quite easily,” she said, adding that her dedication to the practice ultimately helped her achieve the record.
