“World’s Largest Diaper Cake Raises Awareness on America’s Diaper Crisis”

In a truly uplifting act of community and charity, financial services company Thrivent and the non-profit HappyBottoms teamed up to address the critical issue of diaper insecurity by building the largest diaper cake in the world. The record-breaking structure, made from a staggering 87,525 diapers, served as both a symbol of hope and a tangible donation to families in need.

The monumental feat took place at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 9, 2025. Over 650 volunteers worked for four hours to assemble the multi-tiered cake, which was certified by a Guinness World Records adjudicator. The achievement shattered the previous record of 50,112 diapers, a record that had been held since 2020.

The event shed light on a problem that affects one in two U.S. families with young children, according to a 2024 study by the National Diaper Bank Network. Diaper insecurity creates a vicious cycle of poverty: without a sufficient supply of diapers, children cannot attend daycare or preschool, preventing parents from working and providing for their families.

“Our team is thrilled that we broke the Guinness World Records title,” said Susan Belger Angulo, Co-Executive Director of HappyBottoms. “Diapers may be small, but the impact on a child’s wellbeing is enormous… we believe that happy starts at the bottom with a clean diaper!”

After the record was confirmed, the colossal cake was disassembled. All 87,525 diapers were distributed through HappyBottoms’ network of 63 partner agencies, reaching thousands of families across the Kansas City area. The event was a powerful testament to how a creative and collective effort can turn a simple idea into a life-changing donation.
