“US Athlete Mike Aidala Sets World Record in Tribute to Grandfather and Mental Health Awareness”

In a powerful tribute to his late grandfather, a US military veteran, strength athlete Mike Aidala has set a new Guinness World Record for the heaviest single repetition Turkish get-up, all while raising critical awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.

At V23 Athletics in Denver, Aidala successfully lifted a staggering 115.6 kg (255 lbs) in the complex, full-body movement. The Turkish get-up requires a person to move from a lying position to a standing position while holding a heavy weight locked out with one arm, a feat that combines strength, mobility, and intense concentration. The weight he lifted was 55 lbs heavier than the previous record.

Aidala’s motivation for the monumental feat goes far beyond physical strength. “I want to use my physical strength to raise awareness for the mental and emotional strength needed to face the inner struggles so many people… battle,” Mike told us. He chose the Turkish get-up specifically for its symbolism, representing the immense effort it takes to “stand up” when the weight of the world feels like it’s holding you down.

The record attempt was also a fundraiser for Mission 22, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and resources for military veterans and their families. Aidala’s grandfather, who died by suicide, was a veteran, and the event was a deeply personal way for him to honor his memory and help others facing similar battles. By transforming his physical strength into a platform for a greater cause, Aidala has not only secured a place in the record books but has also inspired countless others to seek help and speak openly about mental health.
