Regensburg Hosts World’s Largest Dachshund Parade with 897 Sausage Dogs

In a delightful display of canine community, the historic city of Regensburg has officially claimed the Guinness World Records title for the largest Dachshund dog walk, with 897 “wiener dogs” and their owners parading through the city’s medieval streets.

The record-breaking event, organized by the local Dackelmuseum, took place on September 22, 2024. Participants and their low-slung pooches gathered in a parking lot before beginning their walk, which took them across a 12th-century stone bridge and through the town’s charming old center. The event brought in thousands of spectators from all over Germany and 19 other countries who cheered on the four-legged participants.

The walk more than doubled the previous record of 342 Dachshunds. According to Seppi Küblbeck, who founded the Dackelmuseum with his husband, Oliver Storz, the event was organized to spread a message of joy and unity. In a statement to local media, he said, “The dachshund isn’t political. For the dachshund, all people are equal – regardless of skin color, or where they come from.”

The Dackelmuseum, which holds more than 4,500 pieces of Dachshund-related memorabilia, served as the perfect backdrop for the festive parade. As the parade concluded in the town square, the Guinness World Records adjudicator officially certified the record, bringing a unique form of fame to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This record stands as a testament to the endearing appeal of the Dachshund and the power of a community to come together for a lighthearted and memorable event.
